Meet the guitarist who’s played with some of the world’s biggest music acts

This pure talent deserves his time in the spotlight

Take a quick look at the VMA’s and you’re bound to see some of music’s brightest stars and a number of show stopping performances. Take a deeper analysis though (As us here at Gritty Vibes tend to do) and your curiosity might peek at the other guys. We’re just as interested in the instrumentalists as we are in the performing act, as both are masters of their respective craft. With that in mind, talents like Rob Gueringer have always peaked our interest. The Chicago native has broken into the industry, providing some serious background vibes to artist like Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Lil Uzi and more. We tracked him down to hear him discuss the story of his life and music. Enjoy!

1. What was your upbringing like? How did you get into music?

I was born the oldest of 4 from the south side of Chicago. Moms and pops did everything they could to provide for us. With that, one of my dad’s greatest hustles outside of construction was him DJ-nig. This gave me great taste in music especially hip hop. Then I also had my grandfather who played bass and guitar. He had a drum set as well which I started on. He would have me listening to oldies that could range any where from Jimi Hendrix to Prince which helped me develop a very versatile ear.

2. How did you get connected with Kendrick? How has it been working with him?

I first got connected with Dot after moving to Cali from Chicago right after high school. One of my best friends had already been playing for him and they were inquiring about a new guitarist. I went through there to play and they told me the gig was mine. He’s such an amazing and down to earth artist. His work ethic and talents are unlike any other for sure.

3. What inspires you? Whats your creative process like?

I’m inspired by people and seeing how music makes them feel. My goal is to put out music everyone can vibe to and appreciate. My creativity really just depends on how I feel at the moment, I try not to force anything because that’s when the music isn’t natural to me.

4. Are you working on anything that you wish to share?

I am a producer and music artist of my own, and I’m definitely working on some big things right now! I’m still finishing up a few things but new music will be on the way very soon.

5. What’s next for you? What are your dreams/goals?

Next up for me is the DAMN European tour with Kdot and a few shows with some other artists as well. I’m currently working on new music as well! One of my main goals is to bring a sound unlike any other to the music industry and dominate with hits that everyone enjoys and will support.
