For today’s feature, Gritty Vibes’ own Travion January tracked down a Texas artist who’s pop culture style artwork has him buzzing across social media. Check em out.
Please introduce yourself. Where are you from? What was your upbringing like?
Jesse Vaughn, Houston, TX born & raised. Growing up I had a great childhood with loving parents, as well as a younger brother & sister.
When did you realize you had a gift?
Growing up I was always doodling here and there, but nothing too major. I started painting about 6 months ago. At first it was just for fun but I soon realized that I was good & people started to seriously show interest in my work.
Alot of your work looks to be pop culture influenced. Does it play a big role in your art?
Yeah pop culture & hip hop play a big role in my work. It’s something that I’ve always been into, so it’s never hard to convert it to a canvas.
Does your family and friends support your art as much as the internet does?
My support system is outstanding! Everyday I’m being pushed to reach my full potential as an artist. Whether it be from a family member, friend or even a random person who loves my work.
What’s the toughest thing you’ve been through as an artist?
Like every great artist I have experienced artist block, but I draw inspiration from so many areas, the block never last long.
Any advice for those on the come up?
Only advice I would give is to keep pushing no matter what no one tells you, cause hell i’m still on the rise trying to make a living off of this art.
