The star forward is coming back where it all started
Maurice Harkless enjoyed a stellar season for the Portland Trailblazers and now the Queens New York native will be dishing his knowledge of the game and life in his upcoming skills academy. Powered by Gotham Hoops, the clinic will feature a talented coaching staff, composed of experienced high school and college stars, as well as hands on instruction from Harkless himself. Inner city kids will find a relatable mentor in Harkless, a homegrown talent who honed his skills at Forest Hills High, before eventually shining at St. Johns. “This is a great opportunity for local youth to interact with and learn from someone who’s been in their shoes,” Says Gotham Hoops Founder Ray Anczelowicz. “We’re excited about using basketball, a game we all love, to positively impact today’s student-athlete.”
The event welcomes boys and girls, of all skill levels, grades (6-12), featuring a diverse array of seminars, stations and competitions. Players will learn offensive, defensive and off court habits that lead to long term success. Games will be played 3 on 3 to maximize player activity and efficiency, under the close watch of the coaching staff. To cap off the event, an awards ceremony will be held as prizes and signed memorabilia will be rewarded to the camps standouts. “Working with our local Boys & Girls Club (of Metro Queens) is a great way to give back to the community and empower today’s youth,” Says Anczelowicz. The skills academy will take place August 12th and 13th from 9am to 4pm. For more information, visit Gothamhoops.com or contact Anczelowicz at (718) – 594 – 3390.
