The latest talent from the sunshine state
Broward county has recently been a hotbed of up and coming musicians and Dasserz has the potential to be next in line. We talked to the Florida musician about the his music and the state of the rap game in general
1. Where you from? What was your upbringing like?
I’m from South Florida’s Broward County. I’ve moved around to many different cities so I don’t really claim one, but I guess I can say I’m from Weston for now. My parents have made an effort to get me out the hood so when I was younger we moved out of Miami and continuously kept on getting deeper into the suburbs, but we still struggled financially and faced many hardships.
2. What rappers do you look up to and do you hope to collab with?
Some rappers that I look up to are Tyler the Creator, ASAP Rocky, MF Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, Andre 3k, and A Tribe Called Quest. If I could collab with one of them it’d be Earl Sweatshirt.
3. What are your thoughts on the value of the XXL list?
XXL doesn’t carry much value to me because people will always have their opinion. I think social media has a bigger influence with helping you make it in the game. You can look at Tee Grizzley and Chance as a perfect example.
4. As a producer and rapper do you think it has made life easier or more difficult for you to push your work?
At times being a producer and rapper might seem arduous, but I believe that it’s an amazing process that trains you to be better because you can’t rush out with content and your content has much better quality as you practice doing it over time.
5. Are there any other up and coming rappers you work with and would like to give a shout out to?
I don’t really work with many other rappers, but a friend of mine that’s definitely great to check out is Jay Swank, but he prefers to be called Jay. His music is phenomenal and I always go back to listen to it so check it out.
