The independent boss of her own brand
For some creatives, balancing the arts with a full time job can be stressful and often cause one to lose their creativity altogether. Having enough money to pay the bills is necessary, but doing what they feel their calling is, is just as essential. Chayne Ashley never had to face this dilemma though. The young designer has combined her art with her occupation and hasn’t looked back since. “This is my first job and ever since then I knew that I couldn’t work for anyone else,” She says. “I had to have my own business because I couldn’t wait to get paid, I had to pay myself.” The result has been her very own clothing line “Sublime Havoc”, a sleek and stylish women’s line that she designs and manufactures herself.
“This is my first job and ever since then I knew that I couldn’t work for anyone else.”
Ashley was a natural creative and designer at a young age and before she had the materials to create clothes, she was already putting together outfits around the house. “I made my own clothes out of the clothes I already had, tied them around my waist turning shirts into the skirts, the whole 9 yards,” She says. By 16, she began making jewelry out of gold wire and selling the rings and necklaces to her high school classmates.

Owning an up and coming line like Sublime Havoc can be stressful, especially for someone with as much responsibility as Ashley. From sewing and creating new looks to coordinating with models and shoots, the job is definitely demanding, but the rewards make it worth it. “The best part about what I do is seeing customers send the pictures of clothing that I made for them looking their best,” She says. Down the line, she hopes to continue to expand her business and venture into other aspects of her creativity and make perfume, shoes, bags and even interior design. So far, being her own boss has gained Chayne Ashley a way to make a living and pursue her talent all in one. It’s also gained the culture some dope clothes along the way.
