The high flying big should be on everyone’s radar

On the high school level, every player wants their talent to be seen on a big stage. How they perform when that time comes is what separates them from the rest and the way they strive and dominate when the pressure is on the most, is the difference between being an average player and being a great one. Aidan Igiehon is on his way to being a great one.

“My biggest obstacle was really adjusting to the speed and physicality of the game”

Playing up a grade level in the Nike EYBL is far from easy, especially being a foreigner like Igiehon. A native of Ireland, Aidan came to the USA as a 6’6 skinny freshman barely standing out and struggling to adjust to the speed of the game, which Aidan said was a tough adjustment. ‘’My biggest obstacle was really adjusting to the speed and physicality of the game here in America because in Ireland it’s nothing like here,’’ He says. Now standing at a powerful 6’10 230 pounds, Aidan has no problem with the speed of the game. With a high level post game, the powerful and athletic Igiehon is apart of a new age of bigs who can run the floor incredibly well, hit a 15-17 footer (And also dunk on your head), which is why he is stuck on many high major teams’ radars. “I think what separates me from players at my position is that I’m an athletic big who can run the floor ad finish way above the rim,” He says. “My strength and conditioning is also at a high level as I work on that vigorously which allows me to block shots and rebound at a high level.’’

With three sessions down, it’s clear that the 16 year old tenth grader can hold his own in 17u. At times dominating the competition, including a 19 point outing with 9 rebounds against Spicy Indy Heat, 18 points and 7 rebounds against Bol Bol, Shareef O’neal and a loaded Cal Supreme squad, Aidan’s best is surely yet to come. With the likes of Xavier, Arizona Villanova and Syracuse to name a few on his list Aidan Igiehon is a name to look out for!
