The hooper hopes to score big in Hollywood
When the number 14 ranked University of Virginia matched up against a clear underdog in James Madison University back in 09, a routine blowout victory was expected to ensue. What the Lady Cavaliers didn’t see coming though, was a valiant, forty point explosion from JMU guard Dawn Raven, shattering the school’s scoring record and earning her squad a big time victory in the process. Dawn was electric on the court during her hoops career, but her bravest decision however, was having the confidence to put the rock down. “Being so successful at basketball made me truly question my true dreams and aspirations,” She says. “Although basketball means so much to me, it’s not the true desire of my heart and it took so much courage and faith to walk away from it.” Walking away from the game is exactly what Evans did, as the elite hooper has now blossomed into an up an coming actress. If her drive on the court is any indication to her new ventures, it won’t be long until she’s big time.
“I want to live in my dream everyday and create worlds on TV that people couldn’t imagine on their own.”
Raven’s early success as an actress is perhaps connected to the fact that she’s not quite new to the craft. She’s been acting for as long as she can remember, first showing promise as a child actress.”It was actually my love before basketball,” She says. “I was coming to LA every pilot season and being home-schooled by my father.” Her family’s sacrifices are something that Raven does not take lightly and with her recent string of film and television appearances, it appears that it’s paying off. She’s been featured in movies such as ‘Retake’ and ‘That’s my Brother’, in addition to shows like ‘Black Boot’s and ‘Lipstick the series’. With a few releases slated to drop soon, her time is approaching and fast.

Whether she’s putting big numbers up on the court or getting into character on set, Dawn Raven sees her life as a production, created with the sole purpose of inspiring others. Going forward, she has a clear vision of what she wants for herself next. “Blockbusters and Series regulars,” She says. “I want to live in my dream everyday and create worlds on TV that people couldn’t imagine on their own.” Putting the ball down has opened so many doors up for Raven, but in actuality, the game will never leave her. That big win in 2009 still lingers on her mind from time to time and she can’t help but notice its relevancy to her current situation. “I know that game translates to the life I live right now,” She says. “Just waiting on my 43 point game in life.”
